Why do people use Linux?

I would use Linux for all my web browsing and whatnot, but it's too much of a pain in the butt to switch between OS's when I want to play a game, or go back to browsing the web after playing a game. I've been considering putting Linux on my laptop... but I think I'll stick with Windows on that since I know little about Linux, and know even less about getting it to work good on a laptop.
