Why do people spell owned as pwned?

At first I thought it was a banned word, but then I checked by typing it in forum issues and its not banned. So what gives? why not owned? Is this one of those geek speak things like pron or pr0n?

Hehe, my IAH (some required literature and history class) teacher at MSU (Michigan State University) said that "creative" people can't spell. I know I can't spell but I am good with vocabulary. I remember taking the vocab tests in high school and being that I skipped a lot I sometimes had to take two tests at a time and I would finish before anyone else in the class even with the two tests. I guess I should have taken AP English instead of College Prep, but I already had 3 AP classes and I didn't want to strain myself too much. The funny part about it is it was a really easy year and I could have probably taken six AP classes (I had a computer tech class that only 12 people got to take, so I wouldn't have taken a seventh AP class anyway).

take a look at your keyboard. chances are, the p is next to the o. if you reach for o and accidentally hit p sometimes you're going to fast to correct it. this is not one of those occassions.
