Why do people sign their messages?

On usenet (back when people used usenet for discussion, not just binaries) it's normal to sign your posts, even if you have a signature. It's normal to sign an e-mail, even if you have a signature. I'm not sure why Internet forums are different.

BBS's started in 1979, when there weren't any signatures and often your username was anonymous. It's probably just habit for people who spent more time without a signature than with one.

You can search for your name in the "Author" field in advanced search... works good.

You can search for your name in the "Author" field in advanced search... works good.

That's an extra click - and it's also a legacy holdover from the old version of fusetalk when the search WORKED, but didn't have all the bells and whistles.
