Why do people say "pr0n" instead of "porn?"

i always thought it was just a typo..... like "teh"....pron...and then the "0" in pr0n came along for l337 sake

It's b/c porn is forbidden here. And even to pronounce the word is undesirable, though not strictly forbidden IMO.

Anyone who thinks it originated from a forum is wrong.
It predates forums as we know them quite a bit.

It either originated from IRC, or newsgroups, I'm not sure.... maybe even dial-up bulletin boards?

and the variation of using 0 instead of o is NOT new, its been pr0n as long as I've known it

pr0n has been around almost as along as ub3r l33t sp34k t3kn1q has been

it started years ago with wanna be hackers, talking about being elite (for anyone with no sense of cyber-history)

1337 sp33k was not started to either look cool nor to get past language filters (FYI :)).
