why do people park cars "backwards"?

why is it that some people (particularly riced out cars) park their cars backwards (i.e., go into the spot in reverse)? i just don't understand it and it pisses me off because it takes so damn long some times. i can understand it sometimes with large cars (trucks).

eeesh, the reason i bring it up is because some girl was doing it this morning in a riced out civic and she really sucked at it (not within the space lines) and it was taking forever--really pissed me off this morning. and i see it almost every morning.

can someone explain the rationale to parking "backwards"? i just don't understand it.

the only advantage i can see in this is leaving the spot would be faster--but it takes the same amount of time, maybe faster to get into the spot normally.

or is it just to be "cool" and show-off the car?

well anyway, just ranting and hoping someone could give me an answer to something that has puzzled me.

It makes it quicker to get out. At work it is mandatory to park all vehicles like this in case of an emergency/call/whatever.

In my 04 Accord Coupe-- it's actually easier to park backwards than forwards. But most of the time I think people do it to show off their parking skillz.

for normal people, though, they're taking the same amount of time or more total (parking and leaving added together) than if they just parked normally. my school has a head-in-only rule. the ricers get ticketed all the time.

I do it when nobody is waiting behind me. Just makes it easier ans safer to get out for me. I hate backing out when a big truck parks next to me and I can't see if someone is walking behind.

Backwards ?

You mean backing thier cars in ?

Because it's conveniant when you want to leave, DUH.

So are you questioning the merits of parking "backwards".
Or just hating on ricers?

I do it when there are people around who will be easily impressed by my spiffy driving skills.

Edit: I drive a big ol' chevy pickup which is too much vehicle for some people to handle in the first place. 😀

i parked next to a guy who parked backwards and i couldnt get out without having my door hitting his mirror.

Makes it far easier & safer to leave the spot.

I hate it when people ride my ass in a parking lot, makes it impossible to do that.

If you're halfway decent at it it doesn't take much longer.

I always back in... in the back row in our parking lot, you barely ever see cars that aren't backed in... I do it too.. just something Im used to ;shrugs:

i can back into a spot just as fast as i can pull into a spot, though i only back in normally if a spot opens up after ive passed it or if its a tight turn into the spot.

That would be your fault, for parking too close to the other guys car.

1, I back it in to show off my skills. I don't really slow down while backing it in either.

2, My car has a much nicer looking front end.

3, I do it next to the fella who just backed in his/her car.

I do it so I can just drive out of the spot.
Safer to drive out, especially at my job where people just can't wait to get the h*ll out of here!

i rarely do it. but it does make for a fast get away🙂

but yea i guess its safer to back into a space then back out of one.
