Why do people own slow computers?

Unless you need it for work and do lots of powerpoint presentations or something, I see no purpose to slow computers. They are stupid, ugly and usually the users are of a certain "persuasion". I see these a lot in downtown metro Starbucks, and just am annoyed at them.

I can understand why one would want a Quad Crossfire computer (with a Corei7 and 8gb ram, etc) and I fall into this camp myself. But why would you want to essentially chop the processor in half and leave it with only 2 cores and 2mb of cache? How are you going to play Crysis? Doesn't make sense to me.
