Why do people like the Fifth Element?

What is so engrossing about The Fifth Element?

I can't understand how there are so many people who like that crappy movie. When I ask my friends, they can't give a clear answer, just "Awesome". One of them loved the alien shriek opera freakshow, and guess what, everybody hides their precious in their body. Ok, maybe videophiles can use it to see the colors of their sets. But the rest?!?

Entertain me.

it's pretty funny and interesting, pretty decent character development too.

just one of those movies can see over and over and not get sick of.

I feel that way about Usual Suspects.

I have never seen the Fifth Element though.

its from the same guy that brought us Leon: the professional how could anyone not like it.
he was also the guy that did The Messenger: the story of joan of arc

It's a fun popcorn movie, with a evil but off-kilter villain, cool hero, hot female heroine, good comic relief sidekicks, imaginative sets and special effects, and a happy ending (entendre intentional).

It obviously didn't match your taste in movies, but it's definitely a classic fun movie.

good action, good humor, great sets/look/direction, decent acting, naked milla jovovich with dyed hair, good story.

it's not high-art but it's damn good fun.

OrganizedChaos, I thought Leon sucked so much ass I couldn't believe my eyes. The worst raping of Jean Reno's talent I have ever seen, with terrible dialoge, a terrible script, and gag-me-with-a-spoon acting from Natalie Portman (thank god she improved later on). The Messenger wasn't horrible but it wasn't good either.

"They do make her..."

"Perfect"

"yes"

(the scene where she is eating chicken then strips to get in some skimpy orange strap thing.)

I had this movie recorded on vhs, then on vhs, then on dvd.........just one of those movies from my college days...all associated with a good time....plus...........

"BIG BADDA BOOM!"

"five...four....three....two.....WAHAAAAHAAAAHAAAAHAAAANNNNNNNNNNN.......BOOOM!!!!!!!"

chris tucker rocks in that movie...

It's original. It's funny. It's well written, directed and shot. It has good actors which fit quite well into their characters. How can you NOT like it?

How about telling us why you think it's crappy? And list several movies you actually like? Maybe it's just you and your taste are not up on par with The Fifth Element? 😛

The Fifth Element is a great combination of visual imagining, technology previews, religious overtones w/ moralistic undertones, music is fantastic, Bruce Willis is a top notch actor, Milla Jovavich (sp?) does a wonderful job with being the supreme being, Ian Holms is great as well. The story/plot is excellent, moves at a great pace. Various story angles mixes it up. Point of view from Mr. Shadow, to the Mangloids, the Wanichi (sp?) and the human race.
