Why do people leave messages for the wrong person on your voicemail?

I've had this happen not only on my cellphone, but also on my home answering machine. Both say very clearly what my name is and to leave a message.

Message 1: Hey, I bought some pine straw from you last year. I need another load, give me a call back and let me know what your price is this year.

Message 2: Collection Agencies have been looking for an Edna Banks, and leave messages thinking I'm hiding her in my closet.

Message 3: Mrs. ##### your prescription is ready at ##### pharmacy.

On my cell phone I get people looking for Todd and/or Willis all the damn timed. They leave messages even though it says you have reached the t-mobile mailbox of EVAN HYDE.

Actually.. because chances are that the callers are looking for VERY hard to find people and leaving messages at any known number might get them a lead to finding that person.

Obviously you've never tracked down a fugitive who has no phone number and has moved 14 times in the last 3 months in 7 different states using different 4 names.

I don't think some guy who sells pine straw in rural ass Alabama, or a a lady who didn't pay her Macy's bill are career criminals, nor do I think the Federal Marshals are looking for them.

OMG I have a friend that had been drinking one night and came up with this computer 'idea' so he carried on a conversation with my voicemail. I later asked him about it and he didn't remember so I played the VM for him, it was hilarious. Everyone that heard it was like dude WTF was that lol.

My favorite is when you leave a message on your office voicemail stating that you are on vacation from such and such a date and that you won't be checking voicemail but some jackhole leaves you 8 messages wondering why you haven't returned his phone calls for the last 5 days.

If you're calling your friend and the voicemail picks up do you actually listen to their crapy message? Most people just zone out until they hear the beep as in their mind they are just calling a friend & know the number by heart.... or so they thought.

Tell me about it! We had this one person at our old phone number for the longest time, calling and leaving LONG messages in Chinese or something...she kept doing it over and over despite the fact that our message is in ENGLISH stating our first names! DUH!

A person who sounds like a little kid leaves messages on my phone. Once he(?) left a couples of messages where he was yelling for 5 minutes because someone was supposed to pick him(?) up, it was raining hard, and he(?) was getting wet.

apparently you've never worked for a bill collector either. gotta make up all kinds of lies to get ahold of people. people in serious debt disguise themselves as other people or whatnot, the person in major debt is magically never home. so you lie by saying your someone else, . and then they give up their name.. then you move in for the money

That's not my problem though. You shouldn't be able to harass an innocent person with phone calls and messages.

Because they think they called someone else. You should have a voicemail message that says, "This is not the phone of anyone but me. If you aren't leaving a message for me, Evan Hyde, then don't leave a fvcking message. Bye!"

I like to do it on purpose just to piss people like you off. For example I'll call your number 123-4567, and when the message says, "You've reached Even Hyde", I'll leave a message saying "Hey there Sebastian Cornwallis how ya doing? Your voice sounded a little different on your intro message. Anway, I haven't talked to you for a while, well give me a call at 123-4567 or whatever is the number of the phone I just called"

So, you do it because you are immature. More than likely there are alot of children like you running around doing the same thing.
