Why do people leave cook time on the microwave?

Everytime I walk in the lunch room at the office I have to clear at least one microwave with cook time still left on it, and quite often both of the microwaves need to be cleared. This happens several times throughout the day. It is seriously an epidemic at work, and in the line of work I'm in, there is no way this should be happening. It's extremely unprofessional and inconsiderate. If I were in charge of hiring and firing and the industry was going through a slow time, I'd walk straight to the lunch room and wait to determine exactly who will be the first to go.

Do people just have no courtesy towards others, even when in a professional environment?

I might have to stop flushing in the bathroom. That's the next guy's problem, right?

You set your microwave to a time and wait for it to bing?

I just mash the buttons until it starts working and open the door when I think its going to be hot.

Mild annoyance for me, too. I'm not compulsive (usually) but I'll often clear the time at work even if I'm not about to use the microwave.

I do the same thing. Right now my microwave reads 48:22. When that 48 minutes is gone I'll have to actually hit something other than the start button. Not looking forward to that at all.

I tend not to notice, our microwave and Keurig are on the same power bar so more often than not I see it flashing 12:00.

Funny thing is we used to have all that stuff in a room with proper power but the insurance company complained that the smoke detector was not the right type so we had to move those items to another location... that also does not have that type of smoke detector, but also does not have proper outlets. Insurance companies are weird.

Because people are lazy. The smart thing to do is spend the first 3-4 batches dialing in the precise time your food needs, so that way you expend less effort on subsequent batches (especially if it takes multiple minutes). But that requires learning, experimentation, prediction, and a few other mental processes that most people run screaming from once they graduate high school. :)

My wife does that all the time.

It's pretty easy to just push the clear button.

If they were civilised they wouldn't be using a microwave (or a "z" in civilised). :colbert:

I did have a friend I used to go hang out with had a VCR decades ago that would be flashing 12:00 if we were watching a movie. I'd reset that thing almost ever time I went over there, or else I'd watch that more than the movie.

Huh... so you use your microwave like we used to use cell phones. You need to pay attention to how many minutes you have left and reload as necessary =P

That's just weird. If you're not gonna use it why does it matter? Only reason for it is if you use the clock on the microwave, and any time left on it means the clock isn't displayed.

Our microwave has a 30 second button. I just push this to the closest amount of time that I need and therefore, no time is ever left over.

Last year someone hid a raw egg in the back of the microwave under a napkin. The next person who used the microwave had an egg-plosion and it took close to 20 minutes to cleanup the mess.

I won't lie, i'm LMFAO at this.

I could just picture you giving a blank stare at your microwave and wishing for it to work after your 48 minutes have expired. :D

I was going to make fun of the OP. Then I remembered how I get pissed off every time I need to press 1 for English when calling a toll free number.
