Why do people keep bringing up Clinton in threads about GWB?

Someone always brings up Clinton in every thread which discusses or criticizes Bush's policies.

Probably because he was the last sitting president. Predecessors (SP?) are always a benchmark for how well/poorly the current administration is doing. Just my opinion however. :)

Because they know Bush was wrong to attack Iraq and their only defense is to turn around and blame Clinton.

Because the slogan of Bush the younger's administration is "The Buck Stops Anywhere But Here!".

Because Bush never took the presidential responsibilities from Clinton. Clinton, and not Bush, is still responsible for everything Bush does :D

Because people want to blame GWB for everything and they don't think for a moment that something Clinton did during his term could affect the future.

Literally, they think that when a new President enters office, everything immediately changes.

Usually the references to Clinton are off topic to the discussion.

The same could be said about the MANY threads that have nothing to do with Bush and are about certain other people. Seems that Bush always seems to enter into those threads by bleaters...no?

I agree. Some issues do involve decisions and policies of past administrations, but they tend to get brought up far too often. For example, while most reasonable people might agree that Bush may have "inherited" a recession from Clinton, Bush has been in office long enough that his supporters can't just keep making that same point and think that absolves him of any blame for the current economic situation.

And it's not just Clinton, President Reagan gets quite a few mentions as well (both praise and blame, depending on the author and subject being discussed).

There are usually two reasons for this.

1) Diversion
2) To show that your guy is worse than my guy...so my guy isn't that bad.

Indeed. That sums it up nicely.

People spend their time mostly thinking about sex and when somebody starts talking about the asshole who f8cked a whole nation naturally they minds turn to Lewinsly and the President whose sex act was a national obcession.

It could also be though, that Republicans, who are know to be born with their index fingers up their asses find in later life that it is frozen in that pointing position.

ooooh... One could ask why all the off topic Bush bashing occurs and I imagine the same answer would apply to both scenerios.

Generally he is used to expose the double standard of liberals, IMHO. Not that conservatives don't have double standards, just not this particular one :)

Or when facts and people come out against the 4th Reich they shoot the messenger and do anything they could to divert the attention and bad news about their Fearless Liar.

The problem with that theory is it presumes everyone who criticizes Bush also supported Clinton. More accurately, it presumes they supported Clinton on the same issue they are criticizing Bush about. Unless you can find posts from that person showing he supported Clinton but criticized Bush under comparable circumstances, it is an empty allegation.

For example, I think lying to America is wrong. It was wrong when Clinton did it. It is wrong when Bush does it. Claiming I have a double standard about Bush administration dishonesty is partisan noise, a transparent attempt to divert from valid criticisms of Bush & Co.

Bam, Winnar.

The economy in the first 2 and a half years of Bush's term is a good example.
