why do people honk in tunnels.

Because they're dicks are small and they want to feel black....

I was out in san fransisco last winter, and was suprised that no one was honking in the tunnel. Then I saw why, because there was a sign that said no honking :)

So I honked, and like 200 people joined in and it got really fricking loud! :)

Many tunnels have a sign outside of them saying "sound horn". So yes, it IS the law.

old underpasses/tunnels were rather narrow,and you were supposed to enter slowly,
sounding the horn.

There was still one with a sign announcing this locally,aprox 25 years ago,
in Niskayuna,on the road to Lock 7 on the Mohawk river.
