Why do people hate 1&1?

Just curious why people hate 1&1? Is there any reason or is it just a general dislike?

My friend and I are starting a website and thinking about using them as a host and would value any comments! Thanks!

From the prices I've seen in ads, I can tell you right off the bat they oversell their space. Test out there customer service, see how fast they respond. Ask them what their policy is on installing modules (PHP and whatnot).

If I were you, I wouldn't go with them based solely off the price, but I don't have experience with them.

Prices? I pay $2.99 a month for 10gb of webspace. My friend pays $4.99 a month for 100gb of webspace. He is using over 75gb and I am using 8gb. Please know what you are talking about before you talk.

They have a reputation for poor, indifferent customer service. As do most inexpensive web hosts.

They ticked me off a few years ago... signed up for a free 3 year promo & used a one time cc to avoid them charging me when it was over. They didn't charge the card, because they couldn't, but they did post a charge to my account and then sent it to a collection agency - even though I told them to cancel the account.

If you know what you are doing, you don't need tech support or customer service. I've been using 1and1 for years. No complaints here.

Nice try. I have recommended well over 50 people to sign up at 1and1, with the vast majority of them following through. Not a single person has run into a problem yet. Edit: and several of them use >90% of their space.

Anything really. Cheap is good but I would be willing to pay up to 50-60 a month (but only if I could host a game server as well as a website or two).
