Why do people get out of the pool

Seriously I never understood this.

Not like they're gonna get even wetter. Sure if it starts lightning but EVERY time it rains the pools clear out. We have a pool for our guests and I've been a lifeguard for the past three summers. 🙂

Haha we have a lightning detection system so we know ahead of time about storms. If lightning threatens we clear the pool but I'm talking about plain rain.

Rain doesn't affect the ORP that much and the alkalinity can handle quite a bit of acid rain. In NC the precip pH is around 4.6 according to the weather probe.

People actually add the most organics to the system. I won't discuss the disgusting things that happen in the pool.

who gets out of the pool when it rains? i only get out of the ocean when it rains... tides are all fvcked when a storm comes in

The people in your pool are getting out because they probably don't know about your lightning detection system. They don't know whether the storm will bring lightning or not, they just don't want to get fvcking fried. Plus, most of the time, once it starts raining it gets noticably colder from the reduction in sunlight and cold rain (as opposed to warm pool water). Oh, and they probably want to get out and make sure whatever sh1t they have around your pool that they want to keep dry (towels, clothing, footwear, etc) is staying dry.

Enough reasons for you?

Never understood why people did this. I was a lifeguard for 3 years too. If no lightning, then swimming in the rain is a blast.

We used to have swim practice outside in the pouring rain. It was so much fun and so cool to see how the rain affected the water...

Perhaps because the average person doesn't have a lightning detection system with them, so hell if they know whether they'll get hit with lightning or not. I'm guessing tho' they prefer not to take the chance. 🙂

Probably because if they get out now they still have a dry towel to dry themselves off whereas if they wait their towel will be soaked and they will not be able to dry themselves? Didn't think of that one didya?

Well the lightning detection system is the same as NASA, USAF and most amusement parks use. We qualified for a major insurance discount because of it. It's not a $60 pocket thing you know. 😉

Often the pool is closed when it can still be sunny or there is no thunder but there are lightning strikes from clouds that constitute a threat. The real purpose of the system is for the marina.

I can understand people want to get out if they have clothes and other things that should stay dry. 🙂

Well, there's that and the polluted runoff. I stay out of the ocean for 3 days after a rain.

Around here rain = cold. The sun has to be completely exposed for it to be warm enough to swim. I have been swimming in very humid climates where it started to downpour, and I didn't mind swimming.

i play water polo and swim. being in the water is soooo much better then out of the water, especially at swim meets. I completely agree. people who get out of the pool when it starts raining. the water is usually warmer, funny thing that heaters do, plus its more fun in the rain. whats gonna happen? your gonna get wet?

Well yes it's cold but that feels GOOD! Unless you're one of those lazy floater types that lay on a raft all day. 😛

I actually heard a man say the water is getting wet. I seriously hope he was joking. :Q

I usually swim to get relief from the heat. If I'm cold and the water is cold it gets old kind of quick.

I always wonder the same thing. This summer I sat around in a large outdoor jacuzzi and watched a lightning storm pass. The jacuzzi was right next to a large building (waterpark) so I wasn't too concerned about getting hit, dunno how dumb that was. Anyway, the warm water plus cold rain pouring down was pretty cool, nice and relaxing to watch the storm.

So it's not a guy in a wet suit of armour shouting "All gods are bsatards" swinging his broadsword around, on top of a big hill?

usually all my stuff is on the deck when I go into the pool. I don't want my towel and other things to get soaked, so I get out, move my junk and get back in.
