Why do people get mad at statements such as...?

It's not the statement it's the intent behind it. This isn't hard to understand, I'm not sure why we needed a thread on it, but there you go.

It depends on the situation, but there's some times where it is a really jerk thing to say. If I walked up to the stranger on the street and said "I'm better than you" that would be pretty rude. If I told a friend "Let me help you with that, I'm better than you" it would be fine.

OP, apparently most of us have better social skills than you. And considering people who think they are better are really not... maybe you should keep your mouth shut when you feel like establishing your superiority.

I didn't watch the video. And I'm not saying the guy didn't deserve it, just that it would make sense that he might take offense to being insulted.

Saying "you are too fat and need to lose weight" and calling someone "a pathetic fatso" are two different things IMO. The first one coincides with the OP's point, the second is intended to be insulting.

however it sad that you usually say the insult b4 you say the OP's point.

meaning..

"You pathetic fatso, you are too fat and need to lose weight. "
