Why do people forward chain emails?

Sometimes I'll just send them all the appropriate Snopes link that disproves whatever BS they sent.

This thread is now about why someone would post hundreds of verified email addresses on a public forum. A better plan would have been to sell them to a spam company.

the reason people forward them is because people believe them. Like that stupid microsoft one that says they will pay each person on the chain $400 or some garbage like that. I had a good friend forward me that so the first thing i did was send them the link to snopes. After that I e-mailed the very first person asking if they got their money yet. The person in all honesty replied saying they hadn't but if they don't then they will join the class-action lawsuit. My jaw actually hit my desk at the sheer level of stupidity.
