Why do people feel the need to say..

I'm sitting here at my desk at work and noticed that whenever someone sneezes, about 6 people can't wait to be the first to scream "GOD BLESS YOU!" It's so annoying, and I'm sure they don't even know why they are saying it. I don't say it to anyone, and don't respond to anyone that says it to me.

I feel the hurt. I work with a lot of Christians. I can't sneeze, cough, or yawn without one of them checking up on my health status. Godblessyou's are very abundant too. I appreciated it the first week or two... but then it became extremely obnoxious.

i think it has something to do with when you sneeze you have a chance of your heart skipping a beat and dying. so "God Bless You" is just a way of saying - may He bless you so you don't die.

i think... well... i heard that somewhere 😛

i feel the same. i refuse to say god bless you each of the 878 times the girl next to me sneezes.

Doesn't bother me in the least.
I'd be pissed if everyone said it for everyone else and ignored me when I sneezed.

I think originally (I could be wrong too) it was that when you sneeze, your soul was trying to escape. Saying God bless you crammed it back up your nose. we all say it now because we grew up hearing it and so we copy

those crazy religious folk...

I hate that! My wife yells at me when I don't say it. She says it's impolite. Why?!? It's a silly tradition. Has nothing to do with being polite. It makes no sense. Except for when I'm around her, I never say it. However, I do sometimes feel like people are waiting for the God Bless You when they sneeze, but I just sit there.

A sneeze is actually an infestation of demonic spirits and never hurts to err on the side of safety.

😉

I just say "bless you" - but would not do it more than once for the same person during the same day. After a while, they get the idea.

i dunno why i say it, but I don't with my roommate.

I swear to god i've never seen someone sneeze so much as him. I sneeze every once in a while.. but with this kid, when he sneezes once, he'll sneeze 20 more times in a row. It's so damn annoying I don't say bless you to him cause he's just going to sneeze again! DAMNIT!

In the Middle Ages, people thought that any sign of illness was a possible sign of the plague. So when they said "God bless you," what they meant was "I hope you don't die, and if you do that you don't burn."
