Why do people drive with their windows open in the winter?

thatsright

Do they just want some fresh air rolling across their face? I don't get it. In Boston on 15 degree days I often see people with their window open a crack or sometimes all the way down.

I drive with the top down in windy 30F weather. Of course, I drive a Miata and the open room makes it easier to solicit Johns driving parallel, so I may be a rare case.

Sometimes I run the defroster too long and it gets too hot, so a quick cool down is in order.

I do it sometimes for the fresh air. And now that I know people are questioning my motives, I will do it more often.

They think the temperature control is a switch. In the Winter, they have the heat wide open and the window cracked, in the Summer, they have the cold wide open, and the window cracked. They can't seem to put the temp control anywhere but at the extreme settings.

I drop the top if its a nice blue sky day (rare here in the UK lol) despite the temp. I love the fresh air, hence the drop top. Even if its raining I like the window down.

One time as a kid, a friend invited me to discovery zone with his lil bro, mom and his fat grandmother. Im talkin about disabled-fat. Discovery zone was on the other side of town. It was a hot day and the mother had the a\c on in the car with the windows rolled up. The grandmother was sitting up front and me, my friend and his lil bro were in the back. The smell that was coming off this fat woman filled the car. It was so bad, that when we got to discovery zone, I literally came out the car vomiting. Ever since then, I always keep my windows cracked. She is the reason why I hate fat people too. I often have dreams about her. Laughing at me, looking like jabba the hut with the fat rolls moving as she laughs...ugh, 20 something years later, I can still smell that fat beast... 🙁

If it's above 35F, I will on occasion take the targa top off the car, turn on the heated seats, and crank the heat. It's a pretty neat feeling to ride under the stars during the winter.

It was 70 degrees today ... why not?

in the winter i see alot more beaters around, and sometimes the exhaust fumes get in my car really bad really quick... i always get paranoid and think its my own car, but when i realize it isnt i crack open the window for a quick jolt of fresh air to drown out the carbon monoxide/diesel stank

This too. Sometimes you need to have the windshield defroster cranked to keep the wipers free of ice. Then you roll window down to cool off at the same time.

I see ppl I know do this when I get a ride with them, it's cause their car stinks like shit. Especially the smoker cars.
