Why do people clap at the end of a movie [at the movie theater]?

 Are they giving credit to the projector or something?

If this only happens at my theater, please ignore me.

I've NEVER been to a theater where they've clapped at the end of any movie, and I've been to a lot of movies / theaters.

i can't stand going to movies in theaters anymore.

am i the only one who feels cheated having to pay 10 dollars and still have to watch trailers and product advertisements...as well as being subject to product and pop music placement within the movie itself.

add on top of that people clapping, gasping, laughing, screaming yelling at the same old movie cliches that you can predict with your eyes closed. not to mention the constant harrassment of people kicking your seat and the odd cell phone going off.

i get the feeling that not only does everyone in the theater have no respect you, neither do the movies producers or advertisers.

so i just wait for them to come on cable/premium when I can watch them for much less money and hassle.

The only time I've ever been in a theater where people cheered was the Yoda fight scene in Star Wars. It was a midnight showing and full of Star Wars' geeks though.

I agree with this.

WTF would anyone even give two sh!ts if someone does clap? They obviously like the movie a lot and are showing that by clapping.

That being said...

When I went to The Lord of the Rings Trilogy showing at a local movie theater, after 12 hours of straight movie watching the whole entire theater started clapping after the last one ended.

I don't know if it was more the fact that the marathon was over or that the movies are so good?

Maybe a combination of the two.

they liked the movie and they clapped... what's the big deal?

how does this affect you in any way that you feel compelled to start a thread about it?

Because it's illogical? There's no one at the theater to appreciate the clapping.

You're surprised that somebody notices a continuing expression of rampant idiocy and can't help but comment on it? I've wondered this same thing myself. WHO ARE THEY CLAPPING FOR? Do you clap after you've just wanked to a porn movie? Do you clap if you're at home watching a movie and nobody else is around? No, so why should it matter if other people, who all had zero input on the movie, are? It's truly an example of human stupidity.

BTW I know now who in this thread claps in movies :)
