Why do people cheat?

Why do people do that crap? I don't play online games but I have seen all the posts here. I have a friend that always cheats when playing games as well. People cheat on tests, they cheat the system, they cheat to take advantage of specials, etc.

Do they not realize they are not really winning? Do they not realize that they are not really passing that class and IT will come back to bite them? Do they realize cheating or abusing the system or specials leads to higher prices for the rest of us, restrictions, or discontinuation of a special?


It really pisses me off that people cannot do things the correct way. Why must people cheat? I see nothing good about it unless your are a miserable loser.

Because they are losers in real life, and losers online, so they have to cheat so that they feel like big men somehow.

because for them, the perception is more important than the reality.
 
I cheated quite a bit in college.
Why?
Do I REALLY need to understand psychology to be a network admin? I mean really? Or what about English. Sure, sometimes i make typo's, but on the whole when needed I'm a competent writer. I just need a dictionary sometimes, but dont we all? NO ONE I know can spell every word.

So, if I'm forced to do something I see NO reason I have to do, I'm gonna take the path of least resistance. And yes, it HAS come to bite me in the ass. But very rarely.
 
because they can't be bothered. they just want things right now and don't care who they hurt. they don't want the responsibility attached, but you're right in that it will come back to bite them in the ass. there's a little thing called karma! don't let it worry you (i feel hypocrital here)...it bothers me too, but realize that their only hurting themselves and concentrate on the fact that you're a decent human being.
 
People cheat because of their inherent insecurities. They're always afraid that they aren't upto what they consider to be the norm, and will do whatever it takes to make themselves larger in any arena to compensate. Their belief is that if people see them as cheaters yet winners, they will only be looked upon as normal players....which is a standard they wanted to achieve all along.

Everyone else has to take the same path. At least you can be honest about it, but I still don't understand how you can feel deep down that you actually achieved what you set out to do.

My problem is that I don't understand how cheaters can be ok with themselves. I could cheat or steal and getting caught or punished is not what prevents me from doing it. What prevents me from doing it is that I would always know deep down that it was wrong and I did not do what was right and I did not accomplish what people think I did.

 
Oh come on, it's not as if you've never cheated in your life before. I've cheated on tests, I've cheated on promises, and I've gotten a lot of deals by placing certain coupon codes on top of coupon codes that I should never have gotten word of in the first place. Heck, the majority of what goes on in the Hot Deals forum could be considered cheating.. (okay maybe not Hot Deals as much as other forums such as FW). I cheated on Project Gotham Racing and put in a code because I was so frustrated with the game and I wanted to drive the Porsche GT2 Turbo so badly I didn't want to spend another 40 hours unlocking it. I get Maxim, Blender, Rolling Stone, and Playboy for free... and so do a lot of other people who read HD forum or other forums.

Why? It's human nature to get stuff done with the minimal effort possible. And I consider it winning if I can cram what I've heard the professor likes to test about in the last 5 hours and get a B+ as opposed to studying weekly and attending every 8am class to get the A. I don't think I stand alone on this matter either.

or they could just be the only smart ones. Working the system is how many people get ahead in life. if you dont work the system enough to stand out then you are just another face in a sea of people. Of course, i dont consider working the system cheating either.

btw, i totally agree with you on cheating in games though... I just got of starcraft and i swear every fetchin person on there uses the map haxor!! :disgust:
 
Because they hate thenselves and don't have enough real confidence not to. It proves to themselves that they actually are worthless even though it's a lie.

It all honesty I have never cheated on a test before. That goes for elementary school, high school and college. I did copy homework a few times back in ninth grade but I realized it didn't matter either way. I never did homework in the last three years of highschool but I didn't turn in copied HW either. I have used cheats on games when I was playing by myself(something like Contra or the like) but I never did it to have an advantage over someone. I have ventured into the HD maybe a few times a year. The only deal I ordered was the Dell deal, but as I understood it they had no problem with rebate stacks and were closing those systems out.

No I am not perfect I still do things that are wrong all the time. I am not a voice of morality either. I am not better than anyone else on this forum regardless of what they do in their person life. In reality I really wanted to know why people cheated because I have never done it before without thinking it was the loser way out. Sorry that is my honest opinion but I have always only wanted to take credit when it was due to me. If I fvcked up I took my lumps and didn't try to finagle a way out. I don't really know why but that is the way I am.
 
Ok, let me help put my case in perspective.
I went to college to be a Network Admin. Thats what I wanted. Didnt want to be a history teacher. Didnt want to be a psychologist. And yet i have to take these classes. Why? Thats not what I wanted, and in the big scheme of things it serves no purpose other then to jack up tuition costs. Some people call it cheating. I look at it as stealing, on the part of the university. They make me take classes not focused on what I want to do. So, lemme get through it with a minimum of effort.
And to note, I NEVER steal. I HATE thieves.

Universities pride themselves on producing well rounded professionals. That is why you are taking a core req class. In the big scheme of things, knowing history and psych and having a better than high school grasp of the english language goes a long way to making you an educated man. If you really just wanted to be a network admin, you'd be taking cisco's internetworking courses.

movies sure portray murders and killing a lot... but yet the crime rate isn't all that high. Acquired behavior isn't always the case of things.

Then why do I take "Gen Ed" type courses in high school? In all honesty, I didnt leanr a helluva lot more from my college level Gen Ed courses then I did from my high school level courses, cheating or not.

Without a doubt. If it wouldnt have, I wouldnt have done it.
 
Sometimes I think cheating can be like a white lie. Say you have an exam coming up and then your mother dies and you are in grief and can't study and don't have the time but the test is still coming up. Save getting it rescheduled you happen to get a copy of the answers and use them. I'd do this guilt-free.

Most of the time it's not worth it and online gaming the only time I can think it's worth it is if you cheat up a character in everquest or something and sell it on ebay, because there seems a real point to that.

Cheating in all other online gaming contexts I can't see a good reason for.

you just lost all credibility. Not only to you rationalize by claiming that the ends justifies the means, you try to claim that requiring a broadbased education = "stealing". talk about rationalization. It is not "stealing". if you wanted that, you should have gone to a tech school.
