Why Do People Cheat In Online Games?

Was playing Aliens Versus Predator 2, and it turns out two of the people were using some sort of auto-aim. One guy it was blatantly obvious, the other guy was only average, so you wonder how bad he would be without it. They both admitted to it, when asked. Why even bother to play a game if it is not a contest of you versus them, but some script you downloaded versus them? Does the big score mean that much to someone, despite the fact that they know they could not achieve it without cheating?

Sadly enough, some people would rather win by cheating instead of with their own skills.

It never really had a chance anyhow. It's a microsoft built computer that's watered down into a gaming-console.

For the same price of it you could get a mobo, cpu, RAM, case/psu, and likely a lite-on 52x cd-rom drive. (new computer)

It's pitiful that people still even buy gaming consoles... :(

I prefer consoles and would buy them over computers any day.

Shoot... err suit yourself.

I think computer games have better graphics, have more control and are of course capable of being upgraded. :)

For 200 bucks you'd have to work like a ferengi on speed to get a computer that'll post the same kind of graphics and gameplay. yea, specs might be the same, but then it also has to support the OS and all that crap, not just the game.

You are so right about people cheating. Its stupid. I was playind Dungeon Siege online the other day and some guy was stealing the other peoples items. Another instance is a persno made a game, and you would think it would be like a normal game or where you can trade your items, but it was really a player versus player game where you drop everything when you die, and they guy hacked his character so you die after one hit. Its thinks like that, that make me dislike playing games.

eh. i don't like game consoles because they can't have 16 people multiplayer games and they don't have enough buttons. in TFC i use every button on my keyboard.....well all the alphabet and numerical keys anyway. also use alt, estape, shift and some of the F keys for waypointing.

The auto-aim thing is called an "aim-bot". And, yeah, they suck. UT servers do a pretty good job of blocking crap like that.

I was in TFC few days back since it`s rare you get cheaters in there but there was a guy with a wall hack,he soon got kicked off by Admin :),CS probably has the most cheaters,I was in a game lastweek and this guy had more then one cheat hack,aim-bot ,wall hack etc,but the most obvious thing was he had a deagle and was firing like 50 shots without reload, now anybody that has used a deagle knows it only holds 7 in the clip, boy he got everybody pissed and he also had the top score which made it worse.

I`ve no respect for cheaters period, give me a honest player of any standard anytime,if he`s better then me , fine I can try and improve,if he`s not well he can try and improve, in the end it`s teamwork.

sometimes... when i'm testing out a new game...
i use cheats. yes... i admit.

but none of those games are online games... vs. another human player.

that i just don't believe in.

besides... getting banned is just not fun.

Yeah...cheating pretty much ruined Tribes (one of the greatest games ever). Stupid autofire sniper rifles and so forth made it not worth the effort.

Cheats can add some fun to single player games though. FOr instance, right now I'm playing Jedi Knight Outcast with all force powers let to level 3 and I'm going to try to use the light saber (nothing else) for the whole game.
