I honestly don't see where its fun. My roommate and I play PSO on Gamecube, his good character is FULL of fake items, including a mag thats at level 326 in all 4 categories(to put it in perspective, a real mag has a max level of 200 TOTAL). So he starts a new character....a level 1 force....we're playin last night, he's whining and bitching because its so hard....I come back today and suddenly he has lvl 40 spells. Surprise surprise....already faked out. I don't understand why this is fun, just running through and killing everything isn't fun if there's no challenge, he can't go places that would be challenges because he doesn't have near enough HP, 1 hit kills him there.

He sucks at life. Cheating makes him feel good about himself.

Some games I don't really care about investing a ton of time into just to build up everythign so, instead of wasting a ton of time on a game I don't really care about, I'll cheat. But then again I have a mod chip in both my PS2 and Xbox so i have about 100 total between the two.

There are cheat codes for many GC games. Maybe not for that game though!

i cheated in every game i ever played. i just don't see the point in being weak and dying all the time in a game. i played for fun, and fun is what i had.

We both have level 40 characters, his is a ranger(long range but weak) mine is a hunter(up close and strong)....he does 4 times as much damage as I do. Is anything wrong with that picture?

I don't know....its online though so I'm sure theres a way to get hacked files onto your game, or to connect your memory card to the computer.

Depends on the game. I will might cheat as far as getting some extra money but that is about it. Unless I have beat the game fair and square I won't cheat.

I have sometimes cheated on RolePlaying games just to see the ending, but this was after many hours of time invested. Same thing goes for FPS games playing single player. Sometimes, I just have given up on the fun factor and just want to see the ending.

You don't die all the time if you're good. He dies all the time because he never learned the right way to play the game, it was ridiculous last night, we both had level 1 forces and he died like 7 times before I died once, and his character was physically stronger than mine(mine was more based around spells)

I use GOD mode just to finish games in single player. I don't have too much patience and I just want to go once-through a game to see how it was. I have no urge to test its difficulty against my patience.

Doing this online is a different story. The point of that is to see how good you are. WHat's the point of cheating then ? Boredom probably.

Depends on the game to me.

I do not understand why people cheat in FPS games. Well, I do understand but it pisses me off. FPS games are purely competitive. The only point to playing one is to get better than other people. So, to me, cheating defeats the purpose of playing. The soul reason of cheating in an FPS game is so that the cheater can spit in other peoples faces and say "if I suck at this game, then I'm going to ruin the fun for everybody!"

Then there are time sink games. Like Everquest. The problem with EQ is that the developers put a rediculous ammount of work into making it so that it would take you from 1999 to 2000 to do 1 specific thing. They really tried to force people to play their game for a long long time just due to time sinks. In this scenario, cheating is used to do a lot of work within your givin schedule. The cheating is more like man versus the system. It doesn't really hurt other players per say. Although, cheating in EQ always came down to exploiting.

Then there is rampant rpg cheating like in Diablo. This I frowned on, because it directly affected players. All good equipment was being duped, thereby destroying any semblence of an economy. Also, the next person you attempted to pk could have some illegal weapon that slaughtered you in 1 hit. It basically ruined the game.

I suck at FPS, but companies spend so much $$$ on these games that I always want to see the cutscenes and movies so I cheat to get through the actual game part.

Never cheated at an RPG though, cuz I like those.

Dont' cheat at sports games either

I know what you mean. Sometimes in games you feel that you've exhausted every option and still don't know what to do. At that point I don't consider it cheating to check a walkthrough. Cheating is when you haven't really tried and you just want someone to tell you what to do from the get go.

I just started playing online a couple weeks ago (MOHAA).

While I'm sure most people are far better than I am, I have seen people do things that I'm sure they cheated at.

I'll get onto a server and follow differnt players for a while before joining the game. One might go around five corners quietly, then go around the next one with his gun blazing. What a surprise - someone was waiting there! I assume there are cheats to let you see through walls. Otherwise, why was he shooting?

Or I might be hiding somewhere, and someone comes around a corner very far away and kills me instantly. Even if they knew I was there, I think you might need more than a tenth of a second to spin around, aim, and fire with 100% accuracy time after time. You'd think everyone would miss a long shot once in a while.

I also have suspicions about people having superhuman (but not complete) resistance to bullets/grenades, but I don't know enough about that.

My Dear Freaky Deaky,

When I played Hugo, Leisure Suit Larry, Pitfall and other such games sometimes I'd get the hints or cheats off of Happy Puppy Dot Com. I got stuck in a few places and needed a push.

I hope you still love me.
