Why do people care so much about Xbox360 vs. PS3?

When the 7800GTX came out, it was only like $600ish (+/- $100).

The Xbox will be $400 and the PS3 will be $400 probably. That's $800 for the consoles alone.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not arguing that you can't buy both, b/c i'm sure a lot of people CAN afford both consoles. I was merely pointing out that the cost of the latest PC videocard is cheaper than both new consoles combined.
