Why do people care about a box having 4k upscaling?

I dont think people care about upscaling that much, its the passthrough that people are looking for.

Yep, I think upscaling only matters with DVD's. With Blu Rays, you want the signal sent straight to the display, with no interference, and I think that's the way most people set things up.

The reason people care is that there are differences in quality between scalers. I'd rather run scaling through a madVR box if possible.

My receiver makes a much better job of scaling than my TV does, not to mention the fact that it will delay the audio in sync with the extra process time of the scaling. If I leave the TV to do it then the audio will get some way out of sync and the image quality just isn't as good. But generally I think upscaling only really matters while little to no 4k content exists. Once the content starts coming along and TV stations are broadcasting UHD it won't be as important as it is now.

Personally I wish they would just have a 1 pixel goes to 4 mode for 1080p content rather than trying to blur it together in typical scalar style. At least that way the image remains sharp with the fidelity of the original HD signal. Alas all the scalars I have seen so far have been blurring the screen and making it generally look worse not better.

With the current 4K TV's out, it's best to let the display handle the up conversion. It's been shown to do a better job, even compared to some of the nicer BD players (Oppo) with 4K upscaling capabilities.

Audio sync problems remain? That was always the biggest problem I found and as was mentioned the AVR would do a good job keeping the audio delay.

I run my S570 player through my Denon 3313ci to my VT60 plasma. Should I not?
