i thought reseller ratings is pretty well known amongst online shoppers. But I guess you're right. People throw out common sense as soon as they see a good deal.

Also it's a shame gmail is putting up these types of links

What? Really...this is news to me.

I always checkout on there and they seem to be dead on with how good, or how crappy a place is.

I had a bad habit of checking reseller ratings after I'd already made the purchase. Luckily enough, it only took one bad experience to learn from it.. One which didn't even cost me anything because I immediately went crying to my cc company who fixed up everything.

Shady internet shops : bullies :: credit card companies : big brother who goes and beats up the bully and gets your lunch money back 😀

edit: oh yea, it was a camera dealer too. Not this one, but I strongly suspect it's the same people just operating under a different name. This sonic cameras wouldn't happen to be based out of NJ would it?

It's cause they get hypnotized by the low price. Once they see the unbelievable low price their brain just shuts off.

a lot of these shady camera shops are based out of Brooklyn, ny. Some are probably also in the metro area in north NJ just outside of nyc. A lot of these stores probably even sell stolen materials

You think that's good.

My dad googled "iTunes". Clicked the first result (a google ad) and paid $85 to download iTunes.

That's awful. You should install Firefox and Adblock Plus on his computer.

What's your dad's email? I've got some good deals for him to click on.

for the life of me I can't understand why the New York Attorney General has not shut down these shitty Brooklyn camera sites yet. They all employ classic strong-arm bait and switch techniques and countless other fraudulent techniques to get their sales. A lot of them even flood ResellerRatings with positive reviews in an effort to hide the dozens of negative reviews or push them further down the page. I could order a Canon/Nikon/any brand name lens/accessory from one of these stores on any random day, and would be guaranteed to be on the phone with a salesperson trying to talk me "up" into a cheap knockoff.

That's awful. You should have me install Firefox and Adblock Plus on his computer for three thousand dollars

Fixed

It's as bad as those popup "Your computer is infected with spyware. Click here to purchase spyware-b-gone" messages. My friend fell for it, and it took me several hours to clean up the mess this program left behind.
