Why do people believe in God if there's no valid proof?

Just think of a world where there is no wonder about a higher power, some sort of angelic or mystical aspects. Imagine a world without religion, there are conflicts and wars, yes, but it would be a pretty sad world if all we knew was that we are just advanced lifeforms...That is what makes the human mind amazing.

Are you implying that people who believe in a God are happier than people who don't?
