Why do people actually listen to what the Pope says to do?

He is but a man, voted in by other men. He isn't chosen by a higher power. Why listen to anything he has to say?

remind me again who actually listens to the pope? Because, last i checked, he was just a figure in the Catholic church. He doesn't hold nearly the same amount of power he did before. He's more or less like an icon now.

He is a very marketable personality, the way Michael Jordan or Tiger Woods are for Nike. Even though as individuals, they are just people, their actions and words can often be worth a great deal of money or publicity.

(this may draw some criticism)
I've always had an idea of marketing the Pope's ummm...excrement, sealed in a polyurethane coating, for pendants and other jewlery. I would think, as gross as this is, there is probably a huge market for such things.

Hey how you get your jollies is none of my damm business 😉

freebee> Hrmmm...I think they might be considered relics. I forgot how the degrees go. Is it 1st or 3rd degree for an actual piece of the body? I think he has to be dead for it to be a relic though, right?

I've often wondered this also. He is just a man, not unlike others. Is he any Hollier(sp?) than the rest of us just because some other men happened to vote to make him Pope? I think not!

why do i have the feeling that this thread went down so fast is b/c most ppl who have a could answer would rather not waste their energy arguing. btw, i am certainly not one of those ppl, but i think the reason ppl listen to him is the reason ppl are religious and do what the bible or w/e says, its plain ol' Faith, not much else u can say about that.
