why do PDF documents task the cpu so much?

i dont understand why PDF documents take so much CPU power scrubbing through them, my dual core uses one full cpu when reading some of these documents...

is that normal?
 
Your problem is Adobe, not PDF.(Don't ask me why the guys who invented the format can't build a reader that doesn't suck, but the can't seem to.)

Foxit reader is your friend.
 
Make sure you try Acrobat 7 before bothering with other programs. They overhauled the entire program for version 7.

I don't know why so many people complain about Adobe Reader. I'll admit that versions 5 and 6 were more than a tad slow, but version 7 has worked flawlessly for me.

For me it used to crash and take Firefox with it.
 
It's because Adobe sucks (except for Audition and Photoshop). Get Foxit.
 
Adobe Reader does suck. Kept crashing on me all the time with my old system, and it always just locks up with some documents. Not to mention the annoying update things and error boxes when shutting down.
 
Yeah I agree it would often hang and take Firefox with it. Far too often for just viewing a damn PDF file.

Foxit has been excellent for me plus I've totally avoided Adobe crap on my most recent XP install.
 
Yeah. Definitely try foxit.

It's about 5 times faster than Adobe reader 7 - this is really helpful on pages where there are loads of vector graphics (e.g. maps) which can take 10-20 seconds to redraw with Adobe.
