Why do online poker rooms look like they were designed on C64's?

So, they can be played on as my pc's as possible.

Yeah, that's probably the reason, but it would be funny to have some cool graphics... It would be even funnier if players had the opportunity to choose from a bunch of "celebrations", or taunting etc. It wouldn't impact the game itself, but it would be funny.

Because poker tables are generally boring. In fact, everything on the game floor of a Casino is stunningly ugly to force you to look at the slots. Look at the carpet next time you're there.

Bodog has a relatively pretty interface. Poker rooms want to reach out to as much people as possible. I like to minimize distractions. I usually turn things like animation off. It's just a distraction especially if you're multi tabling.

I think you've just nailed my two favorite online hobbies.

that PKR.com looks nice, but I signed up and it won't let me add cash to my account because I'm in the US. that sucks 🙁

And so you can multitable without crashing your system constantly.

Poker is a no nonsense game, hence the no nonsense design of most poker rooms. I'll take real features over fluff any day.
