Why do movies in the future have transparent monitors? How stupid.

StageLeft

No Lifer
Watching another movie maybe you can guess which and it had the stupid see-through monitors again. Nobody would want these and yet they have them everywhere particularly in large rooms with a lot going on on the other side of the screen.

it's pretty.

i can see it being useful in some conditions though e.g. where you don't want your line of sight blocked and the information displayed is sufficiently clear and sparse. but definitely not useful in the general case.

Minority Report?

You are referring to the holographic type displays? Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within?

Like a Heads Up Display

In the control room of Matrix 3, they use touchscreen transparent moniters, but the room is completely white and everyone is dressed in white for some unnecessary reason.

Because it makes it 100% easier to compose the shot and avoid going over the shoulder, to over the monitor, back and forth back and forth...plus it's futuristic 😀

I like how in Minority Report, they have amazing gesture control computers but still have to cart fucking glass memory cards around to copy data from one terminal to another. Apparently they forgot about networks in future. It shows that even Spielburg doesn't think things through all the time.

I think that's intentional. The glass memory cards are a physical metaphor for data transfer which fits well with the intuitive gesture-based UI. Though personally I think it looks awefully inefficient and tiring to use. Still a cool concept though that probably does have applications.

I dunno. I figure if cars can drive up 90 degree angles, I'd figure that they should be able to move data with a flick of the wrist. I understand the metaphor but I felt like the clunkiness in an otherwise interesting and coherent vision of the future was a distraction.
