Why do motherboard manufacturers have the worst Websites? (rant warning)

I'm sorry for this short rant, but...I've been trying to research a replacement motherboard and I've noticed something odd.

All of the manufaturers have horrible websites.

Asus is down half the time

SQL errors abound

slow connections

Redirects to Tiawan for "U.S." sites.

I mean really...are these guys not making any money at all? How hard is it to have a reliable website...It's not like the 80s when the internet was something new and mysterious.

I've been complaining about this for 6 years. Have you ever tried finding drivers??

Finding drivers isn't too bad (usually), but their download rates almost always suck. Their websites are slow, and the driver downloads go at like 15KB/sec. Takes forever when you have 30+MB of drivers to download...

There's a lot of sense in them centralising hosting their international websites & as their head offices are in Taiwan ...
Of course that also means that those servers get far higher hits so they can sometimes be slower as a result.

My favorite is when you download something from a US motherboard site at about 10Kbps, cancel it and try a European or global other site and get 150Kbps. Boy aren't we the tech leaders here!!

Not far behind is incomplete or out of date information. I can buy a Biostar 690G board online but their website doesn't list the manual or really any updates except this useless bit of information "(Bios update) removes unnecessary string". Try to find if boards support Brisbane CPUs, which have been out for quite some time now, not easy.

Maybe if you live in the 1990s. Come on now. There's no legitimate reason for that these days other than unadulterated stinginess. How difficult is it to add mirrors? You don't even need to open new offices.

Another thing these manufacturers need to do is add decent forums. Abit has the best so far, other companies should look at how they did it.

This is a ridiculous problem, I agree. I built a new PC on Friday and luckily I had most of the drivers pre-downloaded because I know how crappy Asus' site is. I ended up needing another driver (16MB) and it took forever to be able to connect and download it. Whoever is managing their website needs to be canned.

This applies to all MB manufacturera, reply after me:After we have your money WE DON't CARE! Since all MB manufs., act this way, there is no market pressures we can bring to bear.

I agree!!!! Asus is probabaly the WORST. Try them around 8A EST and it is usually decent (at best) for DL. I do it here at work to my thumb drive.

Back in the day, Abit was good. Have not tried them since they were bought/merged.

Foxconn is really good if you can find what you need. I had to dl several times drivers for friends custom/prebuilt boxes and never once had timeouts, sql errors or bad dl times. Kudos to them.

I will be visiting Biostar here shortly too as I just bought a 690G board, I will cross my fingers (if I can find drivers/bios).
