Why do most IT jobs top out at $400K - $500K?

Seems like a lot of IT jobs just top out at $400K to $500K (w/bonus). Why is that? There is constant demand for IT people, is it due to outsourcing?

Someone who wants to go over that usually has to go into contracting, or consulting.

Um, because that's a lot of money for a job. If you want to make more, take the time to learn about investments, and compound interest.

Rofl! When I was contracting as an IT/Corporate project manager in the financial industry, I was on an excellent daily rate but nothing near that amount. I think you need to take some zeros off, lol.

So a good IT guy can make up to $5,000 a year! That's totally worth the tuition.

:awe:

LOL, are you serious?

Engineers top out at about 150K now....and that is when you get VP status. Not sure why you would pay an IT guy that much....unless he is teh CEO or something.

Maybe a IT director for a fortune 500 company. However, I believe you may just be on something.

Cry me a fuckin river. Try Chemistry. I was a metals lab director at lockheed at topped @ 89K. Only way I'd ever make real money was PhD and become a principle investigator/researcher and they "only" made 150-300K

Prison Guards in Ca made more than that. HS or GED is all you need.

Not sure if the OP is using space bux but it's ridiculous that a consulting software engineer makes more than a full time director and some VPs at my job. I can't convert any of them to FT because they're making 200K (before tax) not even considering if they work over 40 hours a week.
