Why do most here love Apple and hate Bose?

.. the only difference being Apple markets a young, hip image while Bose advertises to the middle aged status seeking crowd. Discuss.

Apple products are overpriced but work well -- even MS execs use iPods because they can't figure out how to use WMA-based players.

Bose is just overpriced.

Apple = Overpriced and amazing quality (in my opinion) I love my ipod with the exception of ogg support
Bose = Overpriced and crapy sound quality. Sennheiser HD650's>*

The difference being that Apple products are produced to high quality standards using top of the line technology. Bose is expensive without any quality.

That's a good point and I doubt anyone will be able to answer it with anything better than a half-attempted opinion, "BOSE is crap, Apple is good".

But...Bose has WAVEGUIDE technology...doesn't that count for something? ;)

Bose products work well, and better than many give them credit for. I agree though that they're overpriced for what you get, and would never buy one. Considering the lauded "Apple Quality", I sure seem to see a lot of "O NOEZ my ipod broke!!" posts here.. and on ipodlounge.. Please don't make the "but other players break too" argument after making the "the money buys you a player that breaks less" argument.

bose uses space age paper cone technology. they don't need high quality parts as long as all their parts were space-age at some point in history

I don't like either. Bose is expensive garbage. Apple is trendy expensive garbage.

Apple has something like 80% of the market, so even if they break half as often as other players you'd still see twice as many "it brrokenz!" posts.

100 brand X, 10% failure rate, 10 break
400 iPod, 5% failure rate, 20 break

only some stuff sold by apple are over-priced... the nano is a good value IMO (being flash-based), the ipod remains one of the smallest mp3 players out there. the ibook is small, has a great screen, and is not that expensive.

by the way i've seen people reporting that the iriver being buggy, the creative being buggy, but i've only seen people saying that they lost all their songs because of itunes, but never the ipod being buggy.

i like the small footprint that bose's stuff has, but they are really really insanely expensive.

Only people who do not optimise their Bose installation with Monster Cables are unhappy with them.

Kind of like the relationship that Apple and AOL have.

Many of the best transducers available today use paper cones.

Read some of the huge flame wars in the General Hardware forum and get back to me on that ;) Flame wars need backers on both sides btw, otherwise they're just circle jerks.

I think what's more ridiculous is the people who spend their lives b*tching about how overpriced Bose is while owning $500 worth of AV cables.
