While I agree with the rest of your post, this statement is impertinent and unwarranted. I'm American and an atheist, how do I fit in to your stereotype? Apparently it's also your contention that only Americans are Catholic; no Europeans? Lol. Religion is actually far more diverse in the US than in Europe. Are you racist as well? It's an honest question, as racism relies on the same logic you displayed in the above quote.

I never meant to lump all americans into this profile, but those who fit know who they are. Religion is a convenient way to deflect critisism of a persons actions. I know and understand that americans are not the only "catholics" in this world but it doesen't seem to follow the same path in other parts of the world as it does here. I have seen other parts of the world and americans seem to have developed more of an entitlement to the good life than any other country that I have lived in. Most people looking to hit the economic "lottery" with get rich quick schemes and intelligent people getting scammed by promises of huge instant profit. Europe is as diverse as we are in terms of religion and race, but I don't see the same attitude there as I do here. As far as my being racist, no sorry but I don't care what race a man or woman is as long as im treated fairly and with the respect I earn in their eyes. I have no issue with anyone willing to work for what they want in life as long as they don't attain it at the cost of anothers livelihood. Cutting jobs because a company didn't have enough growth in their profits is inexcusable but is all too common. It's all a symptom of the same problem, convenience. It's convienent to change the rules to suit your ideals and goals, and it's just as easy to change your beliefs/scripture to control those who chose to follow said religion. If you took offense then maybe you need to check how you manage your life.

I'm with the majority here. I dislike religion. In this day and age of science and technology, religion is no longer needed. It's just a convenient excuse for alot of people to hide behind. I do acknowledge that Christ was a real person who represented alot of good things about the human race. But he was only human like everyone else. Perhaps if people traded in their bibles for physics books and merely embraced the values Jesus tought, this world might be a better place.

I thought everyone pretty much learned religion was a thing of the past after WWII ?

And the pope.... he could feed a starving country with just ONE of those rings he wears.... warship not the golden calf my a$$. I also like how the first 2 rows in every church parking lot are filled with Lexus and BMWs. Most likely the employees of the biggest enterprise in the world.

But to be fair, I've head not of ONE car bomb going off in the name of Jesus Christ........

Ahh..looked into it, yes..I was wrong.

Some of them were strong Christians, but others were deitists, or believed in one spirtual being (God if you will) which had very little to do with governing their lives on earth.
However, it is important to note that all of the Founding Fathers followed Christian doctrine for rules on how to conduct ones self, for it was so intertwined with the society. Benjamin Franklin probably explains it best when he, to paraphrase, said that although he is unsure of whether God exists or not, he felt it was better to believe in Christianity and the Christian God than not to, for the Christian teachings prevented moral anarchy. Thus, our nation was founded on Christian principles because the Founding Generation recognized the value in them to create a moral, virtuous society.

I hate religion/Christ (Christianity) because it was shoved down my throat when I was a kid (for 6 or 7 years of school).
So now I hate it.
Other religions I don't have a problem with, because we were never really taught about them.
Prayers once or twice a day, plus regular singing, Church services etc got to me.
