I can understand not believing something or not being religious, but what did Christ teach that causes so many to "hate" him.

I can understand that many preachers, priest, and people twist his message, however if you sat down and read it yourself, what in there was so horrible?

It's not that I hate religion, it's the religous zealots I hate.

This will either rapidly become a flame-war or it will mercifully be allowed to pass through quietly.

Because logic > religion.

"Faith is often the boast of the men who is too lazy to investigate."

- F. M. Knowles

;)

By the way, I don't hate Christ. I hate people that try to convert others in every opportunity.

I've been called the Antichrist before, because of my distaste of organized religion, but I do not hate it, and I have absolutely no problem with people who choose to believe it. If I did, my girlfriend, who is a very devout baptist, and I never would have made it over two years together :)

Jesus was just about the most liberal person in the bible, if you really look what he did, said, and stood for. Lots of good ideas there.

And unless you can cite some specific incidents, I think you already answered things yourself; it's not Chirst that's hated so much as his followers. He catches the flack he does because they constantly use him as a shield.

the teachings of Christ are the basis of humanity imo. "be good to each other" I can accept that without needing to hear all the crap about rising from the dead and dying for my sins.

Nobody hates christ. People hate churches and thier followers that start wars, hate homosexuals, molest children, try to pass laws to restrict our freedoms, come to our doors with stupid pamphlets and annoy us, etc.

No one here says they hate Christ. But people here certainly have had their fill of selfrighteous religious zealots that constantly try to convert them.

I have nothing against Christ or his teachings. To hate him would be silly.

It's the whole religious thing that gets to me. As minendo says, the zealots. "My way or the highway".

Sorry, doesen't work like that folks.

Because over the years, spiteful, evil people have used whatever excuse they can to insult and belittle those around them.

In the old days, the excuse WAS religion. "Yeah, those people are heathens, so it's OK to kill them". See: Crusades, conquistadores, etc.

Times have gotten less violent, but the basic premise still holds.

These days, the excuse is LACK of religion. "Yeah, those people are Bible-thumping zealots, so they have fewer rights than everyone else" See: censorship, cruel pranks, pointless arguments on internet forums.

The fact of the matter is, a very small percentage of the people following ANY belief system, be it Christianity, Muslim, atheist, or anything else, are doing it for self-improvement or to help the world. Most are hypocrites who are just searching for a group so they can fit in.

I just have never seen so many threads on here where someone talks about religion (mainly Christanity) and it seems that so many people come in and just say "F*ck Christanity".

Hell, now we have a guy driving a cross thru the bible with blood coming out.

I think the people radically against religion are just as nuts as the "I am better than you" bible thumpers.

its not the teachings i have anything against its the people who practise it at the expense of others. Many chirstians think its their duty to harass others. missionaries are the single most evil set of people in the history of the world, all they due is blackmail poor and under privaliged people into converting. They are the biggest culture killer ever to have roamed the earth. its a disgusting roaming hoarde that trys to change anything different then themselves. Ask yourself this why don't the missionaries ever try to convert the wealthy and educated? its because they can't and they know it.

i wish everyone would just worship in their own way with there friends and family and stop trying to convert everyone. mind your own fvcking business.

Well now we have the Muslim version of the crusades. I don't see near as many threads on them.

I am sure in some cases that is certainly true..

Nearly all organized religions are corrupt and evil. It is in their nature. It comes with the mindset of "Us and.. them".

I am not a religious person. I don't hate religion, and I certainly don't hate Christ.

What I do hate is that as a non-Christian living in the United States, I have often felt like a second class citizen. When I was in public school, only a few years ago, other kids would say "you don't beleive in God???" And they would lecture me and such.

The line "under God" in the pledge. The public school singing Christmas carols every December. "In God We Trust" on currency and "God bless America" at the end of every Presidential address. I wondered if people in my hometown would ever vote for me if I decided someday to run for office.

The sum of this was that I felt that others viewed me as somehow unworthy or inferior to themselves.

Why though, did you ever think about that? Millions of kids, teenagers, etc. get dragged to the church without their will every sunday. Nobody gives them a chance to find out what they want to believe in (this is why I hate the majority of them)
