Why do many computer builders not care about what their system/case looks like?

My case is shoved into my desk then is closed and sealed by a door.. only the back is left open and I open the door whenever I need to use the cd-writer, dvd etc. So.. I do not really care how the case looks like.

I don't really care anymore, I spent way too much on my previous computer case, if I am going to build another computer, I won't care what it looks like, as long as it is under $30.

The case I've got is (sort of) transparent green. You can more or less see all of the components inside it.

I'd really like a clear case, but can't find them anywhere.

It's a tool/toy not a piece of artwork or furniture. I just don't care what it looks like. If I want to look at something pretty, my fiancee and kids work just fine.

i half care and half don't care...i just want it to look normal, not outlandish or even hinting at looking like an iMac.
