why do manufacturers insist on using blue leds?

I don't like LED lighting on my computer builds anymore, I prefer nothing lit except the standard drive/power/activity lights.

LED lights has its uses thought.. without it, it would be harder to conduct investigations, particularly of evidence processing and forensic sciences. 😉

Yeaah!

There are 2 processes to make green LEDs - and true green LEDs have been around for a long time. Most LEDs are tinted for identification purposes, but there's no need for that.

You could buy 'water clear' green LEDs 20 years ago with no difficulty.

The older process (AlInGaP) produces LEDs with red, amber, yellow and green. The green is difficult and is often a slightly yellowy-green. This is the standard technology used for indicator green LEDs.

The more modern (InGaP) process is used primarily for blue (and by extension white and phosphor converted amber), but the process also produces LEDs which are cyan and 'pure' green. I bought a whole set of these (in fact I still have them) about 10 years ago.

I was talking about this. I admit to not really knowing how green LEDs have been manufactured until now:

I just bought a JVC Arsenal KD-A815 for that reason, I adjusted the colors to match the other colors inside my car. Screen and button area are independant, and there is a night and day setting (headlights on or off) Check it out... Awesome head unit.
it's surprising how few head units there are with rear usb... I'd like to be able to stick my ipod in my glove box and forget that it's there

I really want: rear usb (rear *and* front would be ideal, but I'd rather rear if I had to settle for one), front aux, cd player, non-blue leds, and doesn't require any modifications to my car, but I think I'm going to have to compromise on one or two of those.

this is currently my top contender, but it has blue leds, no front aux, and just looking at the pictures, it seems like navigating through radio presets must be a PITA

I used to love blue LEDs, but now since my computer's in my room and the LEDs are on ALL THE FUCKING TIME I now hate them. Next time I'll get something from Lian Li or something that doesn't have LEDs glowing everywhere.

my Lian Li has one of the brightest blue LEDs i have ever seen, it was the first case i had to cover them up on, and its power on LED FFS

the HD activity light is also pretty bright but its not as bad as the power on one was. I have the V1000 B

I prefer blue LEDs to red. My receiver, STB, and PS3 are all blue LED enabled when on and I find it much "calmer" than red (although my computer is all red illuminated). None of the blue in my HT are too bright, though, so they don't bother me. I also have a Phillips Ambilight TV so I have a constant source of back lighting that drowns them out a bit. Although my buddy had a PC case that used a blue LED as the power LED and that thing was like a lighthouse - just awful. shrug.

Blue LED's are not cheaper, but they are "cool" so everything has to have them nowadays.
I hate it too. I want all my gadgets to be perfectly dark when I need them to be. Do not like excessive light I cant control.

I love my Razer too, but I'd like to be able to disable the light once in a while. Wonder if there is software to do this.

Razer mouse?

Which one?

The software that came with my Razer DeathAdder allows me to turn off the pulsing blue Razer logo on the mouse, though the blue scroll wheel stays lit (it is quite subdued though, no biggie).

As far as blue, I like blue LEDs far more than Amber. Maybe it's because I associate Amber with networking devices, and I really don't want to see those lights everywhere.

But I do dislike any leds in my entertainment rack. But as long as they aren't crazy bright, I don't care too much. All the stuff on there is essentially blue lights. My H/K receiver, Moxi DVR, PS3 (blue and yellow).. blue lights.

Go for the 815 man.. It's an awesome deck. Arsenal series have a longer warranty as well.
You can match the screen and the buttons independently to your liking, it has front and rear USB, 3x 5v pre-outs, can handle steering wheel controls via jack, has bluetooth and comes with the hands free mic and cord, which works flawlessly. I couldn't be happier with it. I decided on JVC when after almost 8 years my KD-SH909 has been working in about 4 of my cars since I bought it, and hasn't skipped a beat. I love their head units, totally under-rated.

I think I found the perfect radio in another JVC, http://signature.crutchfield.com/s_105KWXR810/JVC-KW-XR810.html?tp=5684

front/back USB, front aux, cd player, big radio preset buttons, and adjustable color LCD... I think the only reason it slipped my initial searches was because I was looking for rear usb, which filtered out the dual usb units... I kinda want a DD head unit just for looks (the stock radio in my car was that size and I've got a 1U head unit now, but it doesn't look that hot and the little shelf thing under it in the carriage just collects dust)

There you go, that one looks great too... Has the same remote as mine.

You won't be disappointed with it...

Actually, I just noticed. even the screen on that is identical to mine.. All the status icons are exactly the same. Hell, I'd buy that deck for the Maxima if I ever have to replace my 815!

If you installed the actual razer drivers for the mouse there should be in the drivers panel an option to turn it off. All my mice I've owned from them have had options for turning the lights on and off for the mouse wheel and the logo.
