Why do malls in Toronto close at 6pm on Saturday?

So I needed to go out shopping today, and realized that the malls here in the GTA close at 6pm on Saturdays. They are open until 9pm on all weekdays.

What kind of bonehead decision is that? Surely staying open on a Saturday until 9pm would generate more sales than say, staying open on Tuesday until 9pm. It doesn't make sense to me. Especially since in Winter people would be more likely to be indoors, and hence a mall would be more attractive to go to on weekends.

err, people work during weekdays so they don't get to the mall til after they leave work which is usually 5 pm? Weekends people are off (mostly, except for those who work at the mall) so they don't have to stay open later?

Labour law and all you know.

Well if you keep the stores open to late the beavers will invade and kill everyone.

Hey, don't joke about that. I remember the Great Beaver Massacre of '98. It's just you, a board with a nail in it, and all that fur. You don't know fear until you see those razer sharp buck teeth coming at you fast.
