Why do Mac monitors look so much nicer?

They are LED backlit, glossy, very high response times, and the pixles are small compared to some others. They do not make the actual panel, but based on the cost, I beleive they buy higher quality panels than some competitors.

LG makes the new iMac panels.

The monitors use high grade IPS panels, which are used for higher end digital production displays.

Well, the new 27" panels at least. But at this point, except for the 30" monitor, they are all LED backlit, have pretty good pixel densities, and Mac rendering is different from Windows and Linux rendering.

It's the panel technology. Most normal LCDs are cheap TN panels. Basically the only good thing about them is that they are cheap. Whereas Apple makes IPS panels, which have better color reproduction, better viewing angles, better everything.

i dunno my el cheapo SVA monitor seems to look just as nice. at like 1/2 the cost.

IPS is slow - but nobody games on mac product so that is irrelevant. you can lop 2 bits off IPS (e-ips?) to make it faster by sacrificing color gamut.

MVA/PVA give a hybrid of quality and speed.

Need to consider input lag too. No input lag is important to some folks.

touch them at what? alot of mac folks like to do graphics design - it is imperative to calibrate and have even distribution of light and good gamut - most bulb based LCD or TUBE sets require a good 30 minutes of warm-up before you can rely on it.

LED backlight technology can stabilize much faster - which is less power - less heat - less waste.

green/gaming/production(Graphics) are all fighting against each other.

I was thinking that all the bad panels apple makes get cut up into iphone/ipad :)

keep in mind - alot of glossy screens are uncoated. the matte anti reflection goes on top of the glossy :) (cheap lcd's) so think twice about matte MVA/PVA/IPS cheapness :) colors will pop like a mofo on an uncoated glossy MVA/PVA/IPS in the right room like no matte lcd will .. but the reflections would drive me crazy at work

I use Dell monitors with my Macs. They look nice, are more adjustable, have as good components, and cost less.

higher minimum standard. whereas their competitors are on a race to the bottom.

I think that it's the software. Because if i connect my macbook pro to an external monitor and then i connect my windows laptop to the same external monitor, the screen looks much nicer and sharper when i have my mac connected.

Part of it is better out-of-the-box calibration.

For Macs they aren't perfectly calibrated out-of-the-box, but usually they they are decent. I have some PCs that are completely uncalibrated out-of-the-box.

Are you using analog VGA with the Windows laptop and HDMI with the Mac?

True, I have 2 dell 2007fwp and one apple monitor that uses the exact same panel. Was perfect for 3 screen gaming.

I always find the Dell's on sale, for out of the box systems, Apple puts in excellent screens.
