Why do LCD TV's come in a resolution of 1366x768?

I'm baffled as to why many LCD TV's don't come in a standard 720p resolution. Is it just to keep the 16:9 ratio so DVD movies don't have "bars"?

Seems to me like having an LCD that could natively display a 720p signal would be much more desirable!

Am I missing something?

I'm pretty sure he does. He's asking why there aren't as many 1280x720 LCD TV's.

Uh, yes. That's why I'm asking why so many TV's DON'T come in a 720p native resolution?

Because TV makers are stupid?

Thats a good question, why have such a weird res? Is it 16:9?

It's very close, but it's not perfect 16:9 like 1280x720 is.

IIRC it's a combination of the PAL standard, and their desire to reuse PC panels (1024x768 stretched)
