Why do Korean restaurants treat their customers like cattle?

Dari

Lifer
Two different Korean restaurants I've been to and I've gotten the same treatment. In both places my friend and I were put next to complete strangers. One time I walked out without paying after they asked me to move to another table in the middle of my meal so that a larger group could have our table. Never again will I go to those two restaurants.

Come on guys, shape up. This is America and you're 0-2 in my book.

I've been to a handful of tasty korean restaurants and never experienced anything remotely similar to that.
mmmm beef bulgogi....

I've never had a problem with Korean restaurants.

I do remember eating at a French bistro type place. There were two of us and all the tables in the restaurant sat 4. They sat us at a table with another couple. Looking around the restaurant, there were lots of tables like that so we just sorta went with it. It was weird though.

This has nothing to do with Koreans? You went to restaurants run by bad owners and what's to "shape up" if you won't ever go there again. I had this happen once at a place I went to often (not Korean or Korean owned) and was really confused but it turned out the place just got purchased by new ownership... and they weren't very good at running a business.

What you experienced is more a function of bad/inexperienced restaurant owners trying to make a buck rather than properly run a business.

I've never been to Japan, China or Korea. That said, I've lived in and visited many "ethnic neighborhoods" in the USA. I.E. at least half a square mile of nothing but "Asian/South Pacific/Oriental" what have you people living/working there.

Japanese people (at least those living in the states) seem to be very polite and proper. Gentle and non-offensive in their mannerisms.

While the food is great at the Korean/Chinese places, manners don't seem to be a part of their culture; brash and too forward is the way they operate. IMO it's not that they are trying to be rude...it's seems like they don't know any better. Oriental "white trash?" Not sure, but it looks that way to me.

That's MHO and opinions are just that.

Sounds like a thai resturant here in madison. The decider did a great little review on it.

Vientiane victuals: Vientiane Palace and Vientiane Restaurant
Atmosphere: First things first: Despite the name, cuisine (Lao-Thai), and specialization in curried squash, Vientiane Palace and Vientiane Restaurant are not actually related. That?s confusing only until you walk in both restaurants? doors. Vientiane Palace on Gorham borders on dilapidated inside and out, and the service ranges from indifferent to hostile?though entertaining for those with an aesthetic appreciation of quality rudeness. The newly opened

I've gone to a lot of chinese restaurants, and they will seat you at the same table as other people if it's rush time. However, you can refuse (obviously), and wait for a table.

It's a culture thing. Go to Chinatown, and just listen to how people talk/yell to complete strangers and customers. Manners go to the shitter, and being polite actually works against you.

I've never had that happen to me at the Korean restaurant I go to in Houston nor any restaurant for that matter.

only has ever happened when i was at a very large table because it was the only one empty and then had to move when a smaller one for my group opened up.

Wow, Dari with another dumbass generalization thread. Who would have thought?

Always been treated well at Korean restaurants.

You walked out without paying? Seems like you could've handled that more maturely. Why not politely refuse to move?

There's also a vaguely xenophobic slant to your post... "This is America and you're 0-2 in my book." Do you have more of a right to this country than they do? Why does it matter they're Korean? You experienced bad customer service and it could've happened just as likely at a Pizza Hut as at Korean Restaurant. I suspect you're rather young and haven't actually traveled overseas yet.

I've been to Japan and, as others have mentioned, the Japanese are very polite, curtious, etc... I went to one Korean restaurant on 32nd St bet. 5th and Broadway. The other was in Fort Lee, NJ.

what's the restaurant in Fort Lee that you went to ?

you never walk out without paying. that's stealing.

that being said, i've never had something like that done to me. If something like that
did happen to me, I'd be pretty pissed myself and would not go back again (unless the food was ridiculously good).

1. You don't have to agree with moving when ask, and don't complaint later if you agree to move.
2. You stole from the restaurant and now you have the gall to brag about it.

I have moves/shares tables in ethnic & non ethnic restaurant and enjoy every aspect of it. It is very common for BC ferry buffet restaurant to ask travelers to share their table with someone.

PS. Please stay home and don't travel if you don't like to shares or experience different things in life.

You do know that many Japanese restaurants are owned by Koreans/Chinese right?
