Why do jeans that look old and worn cost so much more?

Dug some of the clothes that my relatives have given me over the years out of the closet that i have never worn because they all look very faded and as if they have been thru the washing machine 1000 too many times. Despite the fact they were new when they bought them and i have never worn them. So my question is

Why do the jeans that look like they have been washed 1000 too many times cost 6x as much as the jeans that you can buy that actually look brand new?

Also, would you feel guilty about giving these expensive jeans to charity that your relatives have given you, despite the fact you know that you would never wear them?

Because Brigden, Son of Peleus, will soon come in here and explain that $200 jeans > $20 jeans.

No, I was going to post the opposite. For the most part, jeans are jeans in terms of quality. $20 jeans will probably last longer than $200 jeans, but unfortunately I can't find $20 jeans in the fit and finish I like.

I threw away a few pairs of Levi's 501s that had big old holes at the knee, caused by natural wear (thanks to me). Too bad I threw them away before I found out about eBay. I could've made some good money. I have 2 pairs of Levi's 501, black, but one's pure black and the other's light gray. Yup, natural wear again. Wonder how much I can fetch w/ the light gray pair.

p.s. I just remembered that a $130 AMD chip is better at encoding and multitasking than a $130 Intel chip. My bad.

MIKE

A $130 pair of jeans is better at multitasking than a $130 Intel chip come to think of it. Good point.

It's a matter of looking better rather than looking new. There are plenty of new looking jeans that look like crap, such as the ones that get narrower as they go down. If you wear those, chances are you are a geek with a ponytail or long greasy hair, or a computer science/engineering major in college, or both. If you wear those jeans with cloth sandals, the previous applies but you are also liberal. If your jeans are also stone washed, you are probably also Indian and wearing a big cell phone in a holster on your belt. If you aren't Indian but white, you probably have a mustache.

It's about washing and texture of worn-out looking jeans.
To get some ideas, check out Diesel jeans.
