You're right but I always feel that it's arrogant to point out someone's poor grammar, especially since I'm a wanna-be writer/english minor... I know that it's helpful but I hate that confrontation - you know, handing her an edited paper is one thing but going over her paper with a red pen and then talking to her about it feels odd to me.. Yeah, I'd be a terrible english teacher (though a good friend of mine is a high-school english teacher and I proofread her work)

hey pol pot killed a bunch of people and he was cambodian, how come all cambodian's are mass murderers?

Chill with the P.C. bullsh1t.. Should every post have a disclaimer? I've noticed that a few immigrants from many different lands- Russians, Indians, Chinese, Taiwanese (to be fair, she's the only Taiwanese person that I know) misuse quotation marks.. Am I saying that EVERY immigrant misuses quotation marks? Of course not! I even said that my father does while my mother does NOT... Some immigrants have a better grasp of the english language than mallrat punks who spout the word "like" 156 times an hour.. But.. sigh.. too tired to fulfill your quest for political correctness..

EDIT: I was going to edit my original post and the title to say "Why do SOME immigrants...." but why should I let the P.C. police win???

but how much did ya score in GRE b*tch? did the immigrant whop ur @ss :D:beer:

:) I didn't take my GRE.. She probably would kick my ass though - she's insanely smart... And it's because she's a hard worker and brilliant, not because she's an immigrant ... She can load a 16mm movie camera in like 5 min. flat in TOTAL DARKNESS.. and she took me out for dim sum - she rocks.. I didn't mean to put down immigrants at all and apologize for implying anything like that..

Every once in a while I run into someone who uses quotation marks way too much. A friend sent me an email once from somebody he works with and it was full of quotation marks, exclamations, and misused possessives.

Something like this:

Thank you for "all" of your help with the setup for yesterday's event's!!! Our group is "the best"!!!! Please remember to pick up your container's before Friday because we don't want to have anyone's "get lost".

Both of you seem to use a lot of exclamation points. What's up with that?

i dont think immigrants in general use quotes anymore than most uneducated americans who can't properly grasp grammar rules.

since i'd say half of america can barely master english, i'm figuring you could just say why do most americans not have a decent understanding of how to express themselves in writing?

Yes, they all are. We should nuke them before they come eat us.
