Holy crap...totally forgot that you can order that with a 6spd.
Wonder how much longer that will last

As long as they are still producing the old style 4 runner for other parts of the world i figure...
I think the FJ is one of the only Toyotas we have here thats still assembled in Japan. Its built as the same plant as the build all of their heavy trucks.

Mustang GT eh,
She's off to the track on a regular basis?
What's her 1/4 mile time? she do any track days with it?

Its not like she can legally use the V8 power on the street with speed limits and drag racing is illegal.

Does it matter?
Nope
(Not really talking about you or your wife...its just a general comment)

Which brings me back to my point.
If you want a SUV, or a Mustang GT or BMW or wooden go cart that runs off deer farts...just get it.
I would think a fairly small % folks actually need the capability offered by any of these vehicles but its not about needs.
Its about wants.

OP wants an SUV.
If you want it...just buy one already.
That's the nice thing about being single.
Buy what you damn well want.

I miss my Bronco
I can think of a bajillion excuses why I should get another one and put a proper drivetrain in it.
Do I need it?
Nope.
do I want it?
Yup
Can I get it?
Nope
Wives tend to screw you game plan up on stuff like that.

that bitterness on carries on to me having total intolerance for folks who come up with an excuse list to justify something they want.

That's my point, most of the cars on the road today are "wants," not "needs." Same with an SUV. Most people don't NEED an SUV, like most don't NEED anything more than a $15K car. Whether it be power windows (I still have old school manual windows on my truck), power seats, roomy interior of an SUV, or fast acceleration from a sports car, they're all wants. I see an SUV as no different. If you want it, and think you'll be happy with it, give it a shot. I actually think the Ford Raptor is an awesome truck, but I really wouldn't have any real use for it. I have much more use for a new C7 Vette. :) Now let's see if GM doesn't screw it up.

However for every douchebag in a big ole SUV there is another one who demands "A BMW because of the fine handling" as they drive on straight highways and on a grid pattern of straight traffic light infused suburbia.

I have to correct you on this one. By definition, suburbia is not laid out in a grid. They were intentionally designed that way to prevent people from walking around or riding bikes and to keep the riffraff from driving through. Cities are gridded.

Which year/model/engine you speak of? Its like Legos when it comes to Jeeps and i dont know crap about Dana 35/44 and w/e else

I kinda like those box-y type.

Getting a used beater type SUV would work for me as well, i guess.

Dont they rust super easy?

I wanna target 1995 or older.

Any model 91-99 would be great. In 91 they changed the fuel injection system to be much better, and I believe the cooling system as well. 00-01 were the last years they were manufactured and they have a head defect, and should be avoided unless you get a real bargain.

They rust about as easily as any other 20 year old car. The floors are known to rust out under the carpet if it wasn't taken good care of. If you live in a place that gets lots of salt on the roads, or lots of sea salt in the air you'll need to look it over carefully.

You don't need to know anything about Dana 30/44 stuff if the jeep is never going off road. If it is, well that's a different story, but you haven't expressed any interest in wheeling it :).

The vehicle you get will be determined by your needs. What are they? Also, why 95 or older?

I have no need for a SUV. Maybe in my whole so far maybe 4 times would one come in handy. But why am I so interested in getting one. I don't intend on doing anything then driving it from point a to b. Maybe throw on some off road gear and act like a poser.

I like the wrangler and FJ cruiser mainly but hell I even look at yukons.

I'm a single male. Rather own a fast car but I keep looking and wanting one of these. I know mpg is horrible but I just think their neat. Cost of tires would more then rape my wallet.

Realistically I think I'll end up with a Subaru turbo wagon as the next car I buy but I always end up looking at the wranglers and FJ. Anyone have this problem? The FJ is my nice median, somewhat wrangler-like but 19mpg and Toyota cheap.

Dude, buy one used, drive it for a year or two, and flip it. It won't cost you that much and you'll enjoy it.

Personally, I should probably be looking at minivans but after buying progressively faster cars for the last 10 or so years I can't handle the numb driving. So I'm probably gonna get a V8 SUV. I drive 12-14 hours a week, and I like to drive. You sound like you do too.

95 and older mainly for emissions testing. Anything 96+ is required to be emissions testing. I just spent a couple hundred dollars on a charcoal canister and some o2 sensors because the heating element was dead. If it wasn't for emissions testing I wouldn't of repaired either.

I'm looking to keep overall cost down, while I'm not tight for money a lower possible annual cost is always good. We throw down too much salt here, I've seen some 10 year old cars with horrible rocker rust.

SUVs are so much fun in snow and mud. With the roads sucking so bad in my area, I much prefer driving the RAV than the family wagon. Space is nice in the summer too. Throw the bikes in the back and take my kid up North.

If I didn't have any kids, I would be driving a Viper tho. Screw the snow and the mud haha.
