Why do I need to unplug my router after rebooting my box?

Greets...

Everytime I reboot my box, the network says connected (100mbps), but I can't access internet.... The cable modem seems fine as the light flashes (communicating with router).

I try to go the the admin screen of the Belkin router, but that won't come up. If I unplug the router's power, then plug it back in, all is fine....

I don't think this is normal, and the nice folks at Belkin don't seem to speak English.

ANY help is appreciated.

Maybe you router is going bad? I turely know how you feel since Netgear tech support don't speak or speak good English.

Have you tried to use the Windows Network Wizard to reinstall? I had a similar problem with my router (not a Belkin) and that solved it for me. Only difference with your problem is that I didn't have to reboot to need to reset the router.😉

Box configured with static ip, or using dhcp to get it from the router? If you're using dhcp, try going static.. Also, if you're using dhcp, after you reboot the machine and you see the problem occurring, check to see what ip address you were assigned? Is the first octet 169?

I get the IP of 0.0.0.0 Using static or DHCP doesn't seem to help, and infact almost caused me not to be able to get into my router... (my bad)....

I am thinking of switching from my wireless belkin to the wired one... either way, the boxes are wired so it won't matter at the moment...

Will try the MS Networking wizard despite I am against most MS products.. 🙂

Thanks all..

The fact that power cycling the router fixes the network leads me to believe the router has a problem. I think it's time for a warranty replacement.

The MS Networking wizard did it.... I didn't think I needed to use it since using DHCP, but just rebooted and all is happy... Thanks.
