Why do I need to reboot my wireless router once a week?

My linksys 802.11b wireless 4 port router needs to be rebooted once a week (perhaps 2). I have a linksys USB wireless adapter for my home computer and a wireless pcmcia Orinoco Gold card in my laptop. No wired connection to the router. Everything is almost stock, with no encryption used. Everthing works great, but I notice after a week that my internet performance just sucks! If I reboot my router, the performance jumps back up.

This is a bit of a pain because it never get's an IP from my cable modem right after reboot, I need to then reboot the cable modem as well. I also generally need to reboot my PC's as well. Any idea on what is going on and what I can do to fix this?

Well, the obvious question first: have you updated the router's firmware? Some LinkSys routers (e.g. mine) have serious problems that you need the updates to fix...

Also, do you have IP/MAC filtering turned on? I understand it helps with wireless performance. Might help.

I will just add, since nobody else has, welcome to alot of Linksys products.

my wap11 used to be a pain in the arse, till I did the dlink hack and works awesome now.

Ok, I updated my firmware so hopefully that will make a difference.

I have no idea about IP/MAC filtering. What does it do and is it difficult to implement?
