Why do I like Deadliest Catch?

Honestly, the most addicting thing about that show is when they open up the pot and all the crab come spilling out into the bin. There's something about the sight and sound of it that is almost hypnotic or vaguely gratifying. You can't help but empathize with their elation at all their work and time and risk raining down in a crunching thud of living red armored currency drawn from the icy depths of a vast raging sea.

You kow, I actually just got back working on a processing boat during crab season. Some of the boats, including the Northwestern, fish for a company called Trident Seafoods based out of Seattle. From my understanding, they own 28% of the quota up there for Opilio. The boat I was on actually processed 4.7 million pounds of it. I know a big lot of it is going to Red Lobster etc.

Love the show. Sig is a hard captain, but he consistently pulls in a lot of crab. Blake is a bit arrogant, and got SPANKED when he dumped the crab over.

I absolutely love this show!!! I think opelio season is more fun to watch than king crab season because the risk of danger is higher. BUT, the size of some of the king crabs make me drool.

how often do the crabs get their revenge by pinching off someobodys finger?

im always amazed that the deck hands can handle those many crabs and i havent seen one guy scream and pull his hand out with a big ass king crab latched onto him...

It's produced very well. Only thing I though was a bit wrong was they seemed to use death as a promotional tool to bring in viewers. One of the running commercials was like "there have already been 3 deaths so far this season, how many more will there be?" or something similar.

It's just the new fad. I love the show, but I also loved American Chopper & Mythbusters, and both those two I don't really care for anymore. I'm sure the same will happen over time with It Takes a Thief.

It is cool to see those boats out there covered in ice.

it seems all of the guys on the show are real characters. i've been enticed into watching it too, and there is no way i'd be able to go out on a boat and do that.

But that may not have been his fault right? If the count from the deck was wrong? They showed him going back and recounting his books, it still came up right. So either the numbers he was given from the deck to put into his books was off, or like he said they were 'light crabs' - given that they count by number on the boat, but by weight on the dock....

In the last ep of king crab season they said that Blake was taking opilio season off. I would assume that the boat didn't go out without the captain.

I agree about Mike Rowe. I think he's a large part of the reason for the show's draw. He seems to have a very compelling voice and tends to make things more interesting than they might otherwise be.
