Why do I know which motherboard my computer has?

I purchased my computer back in Early 2000, and then, I didnt give a rats @ss about what motherboard I had. Now, since I am more knowledgable and would like to upgrade this computer for my family, I need to know what the motherboard name is. Is there a third-party tool that will tell me what my motherboard is? I checked SiSoft Sandra, and I could find it, so Is there a program out there that will tell me my motherboard name?

if you can't see your m/board make & type in sandra(thought it gave that info) then you'll probably need to open the case & look for markings on the board itself!

look at the post info (the ram check and stuff when you first turn on the computer) most of the time it says there what the board is.

Where exactly in Sandra under Mainboard?

Here is what it says:
General System
Class:IBM/PC-AT
System buses: (ETC)

Under entire system
Manufacturer😀ell
Name:A1
Version 1.5
Serial Number:v9559
not giving out unique id
Am I looking at the right info?

it should be an intel mobo if it's a dell. probably very limited to it's upgrade capcity and overclockability. my friend's dell, from best i could tell, could not even upgrade his chip. the bios nor mobo had settings to adjust multiplier settings. though it could just be auto-detect and no user defined options. anyway...why are you needing to know what mobo it is? to see what it can be maxed at?

If you open the case, grab a flashlight and look at the motherboard closely. Almost all motherboards will disclose the original manufacturer if interrogated sufficiently.

I would agree that it's probably an intel mb.

I need to know the exact name, and no, I cant open up the case. The system is in a weird shape, and I cant open it up. Besides my dad would kill me if I opened his pc.

So Is there a program that will tell me this?

have you tried calling dell? they will know. make sure you get tech support. you'll have to give them all your info but they will tell you eventually. they will say they dont know but keep escelating the call. i had to do that to figure out what ram this guy's computer came with. why are you wanting to know what motherboard is in there? just curious.

How are you going to upgrade this computer if you can't open it?

Ughh... you guys ask to many questions.

My dad wants me to open up the case only when it is absoultely necessary, cause it is fragile. I need to know if the motherboard can be upgraded to a Pentium3 or something.

So does anybody know of a program that will tell me the name of the motherboard I have on my PC?

Go to Dell's support page and type in your service tag. After you'r redirected to your info, look for "Your System Documentation" and click to go there. Click "Specifications" and then "System Information." You'll get your mobo info there.
