Why do I keep having these zombie attack/survival dreams?

I only have them if I get over 7 hours of sleep (e.g. I have time to sleep in and have some meaningful REM sleep). It's always the same premise (aren't all zombie flicks?): I'm in Seattle, or some other large city, wake up one morning to find that the city's been overrun by zombies. I make my way to the first gun store possible, pick up a single weapon (shotgun) and then manage to find a place to hide with other survivors.

In this particular dream we found a church; we thought we had survived the worst of it (fought off one wave of attacks) so we sent out a search party for food; as they returned we had another attack and we all died. :(

Thing is, in a situation like that I wouldn't be stupid enough to a) leave multiple entrances unbarricaded and b) I'd take more weapons, ammo, and food with me.

*sigh* Oh well. I'll let you get back to your neffing.

I've been having a lot of zombie related dreams lately too. Maybe it's almost time?

Sounds like a sales pitch from "Total Recall". :p

There isn't really a solution to the zombie crisis. They don't starve to death or get tired. And the earth is covered with them. If you could isolate yourself on an island with few zombies to kill, that might work. Otherwise, you'd fight and fight until you were overwhelmed. Even with the island, who's to say that the zombies would walk across the ocean floor to reach you?

Well, a nukuler (yes) bombing might eradicate the zombies, should their concentration rise to critical levels in one area...
They could also travel to Siberia and watch the approaching zombies freeze to "death".

That's the dilemma, I think. I've wondered if, like in DotD, the zombies would all naturally congregate in one place. If so, if you had enough food and you had access to a gun store, would it be feasible to just take a few days and wipe out all the zombies in the immediate area and then wipe out more as they stumble in? After a week I think you could be reasonably sure that you've cleared out the surrounding area. (assuming you had access to 4 million+ rounds of ammo)

THEN, you could set something up a la 28 Days Later (minus the raping the women part) and make periodic forays into the surrounding area to search for more survivors and to exterminate more zombies. Seems like over time you could expand the barricaded area and create a safe zone as you find more people and as you get better at killing zombies.

Now, granted, if the zombies from other major metropolitan areas started migrating in, we're all screwed; plus side, if (as you suggested) they learn to walk under water, they wouldn't survive the trip anyway as the pressure would turn them into goo. So we only have to deal with North/South American zombies. :D

We COULD travel to Siberia, but that'd be just as hard on us as it would be on them. I like the nuke idea if it reached a critical concentration in a city like NY, LA, DC, or even Seattle - cities with concentrations so large it would be impossible to cleanse them.

If the strait between Russia and Alaska is passable, then we're all screwed. I'm pretty sure that a determinted zombie could cross the Suez canal too, so now we have all of Africa to deal with too. Most water in the Indonesian islands is shallow enough to lack killing pressure, too.

I have zombie apocalypse dreams now and then, usually a fun change of pace except the one time where I was bitten and felt myself turning into one :(

Well, actually, I would imagine any Asian/Russian emigres would be frozen solid during their passage - during the summer months we would face some difficulties though. So we'd probably have to form a detachment to go up there as a border guard of sorts.

I'm not too worried about Indonesia, they can handle themselves. Any African zombies will probably contend with survivor groups from Eurasia before they make it over the Russia/Alaska strait to contend with us.

The point is, few places have 4 million+ rounds of ammunition. The logistics of shooting everyone in a city just don't add up. Guns wear out, and sh!t happens. Now a tank, a tank would be a great thing to have in the zombie scenario. You could roll over hundreds of them while remaining untouched. That would be a great way to escape the city.

But a tank would be hard to take without keys. And it would also be impossible to use nuclear weapons due to the safety measures involved, and all the people with the keys and codes being zombies.

I would think finding a tank would be a good first start; of course, Fort Lewis is probably already overrun.

you should read Walking Dead :D it deals with this exact same thing... basically a zombie movie that never ends. it follows this family as they try and figure out how the hell to survive after they escape the city.

I just had a great idea: Guantamo Bay. A heavily fortified island military base. It would likely be intact and not overrun when you reached it. Of course there's also all the pacific island military bases.
