Why do I keep getting this message in Win2K?

I was installing Ghost Recon on my C: drive (no other partitions) and I started getting these messages.screenshot

The installer gave me an error for a lot of the data files that it was trying to install, like the bmf, wav, bmp, etc. I ctrl+alt+del the installer but the error message kept popping up even after I quit it. I restarted, uninstalled GR and thought everything was good again, but the messages started popping up when I started burning a music CD with Easy CD Creator. They also started popping up when I was transferring files to/from my USB Zip250. What gives?

I had a very similar thing happen to me too,As it turns out it was my hd going bad.🙁

I went & got Diag software from my hd maker (Western Digital) and it gave me a Error code 212,

<< Transparent Auto RElocate. An error was reported by the drive during the Write command (to cause the auto-relocation) or the Read Verify command (to verify the relocation happened). >>

I had to replace the HD.

It may not be that but I suggest you go to your hd maker & download their diag software & run it on you hd to be sure.

Damnit, if this is the case then this is the second Maxtor 40GB 7200 RPM HD thats gone bad within the last 1.5 years. I just bought this hard drive like 3 months ago. Its a D740X. Good thing I backed up. Thanks budman, Ill go see if I can find some diagnostics for this.
