Ok i have this error in my event viewer: AMLI: ACPI BIOS is attempting to read from an illegal IO port address (0x71), which lies in the 0x70 - 0x71 protected address range. This could lead to system instability. Please contact your system vendor for technical assistance.

Should i fix this? It happens everytime i boot up. Right now i am on a Abit KT7A raid mobo with the ZT bios.

Any help is greatly appreicated

extro btw that is not the bios acpi error message. That page says the wrong error message.

This is what it says in the event log.

extro so how is this problem fixed so it won't cause system instabilty? Upgrading my bios?
I am on a Abit KT7A raid btw right now and have ZT bios on it right now. Bios 64 i think is the latest with like 1.11 Highpoint raid controller bios.

I have no idea if the 64 BIOS for your board fixes this particular problem, but it looks like it adds a bunch of fixes that have been made since the ZT BIOS and you might want it for them. You could try asking on the Abit newsgroup on Usenet (alt.comp.periphs.mainboard.abit), where this ACPI issue is pretty well known, if 64 fixes this as well. If you don't need the fixes in 64 and it doesn't address this ACPI issue, you'd probably be better off just waiting for the next BIOS revision since there's always some risk in flashing a BIOS.

If it's any consolation, I get the exact same error, to the exact address you do, on my BE6-2 with the latest BIOS for the board, and my system and ACPI functions are all working just fine. Zero instability here.

Ok. Thanks.
I just don't get why my computer had a hard freeze so many times. Where my mouse would not move at all and could not even use ctrl alt del. I had to press the restart button because the whole screen was frozen. 🙁

Should i try going from ACPI to Standard pc in hardware device manger to see if that fixes that ACPI error and hard freeze issue or no ?

Ah, well you didn't say you were also having lockup problems.

No, changing from ACPI to Standard PC in device manager is not the recommended way to switch a pc from ACPI. There's a FAQ on doing it on Anands. But to make a long story short, it involves doing a re-install of the OS.

Since you're having lockup problems, I think it would be best to start with a fresh installation. I've found that doing repair installs to change ACPI to Standard and vice-versa, leaves the registry with "ghosts" of the last installation. Duplicates of devices that are hidden in device manager, but still in the registry.

If you're not using ACPI - not going into standby or hibernation - then you may as well install without it. You won't miss it and will eliminate what can be a major source of headaches for some people.

But first, you should rule out that it's not a driver problem causing these lockups. Are you using only the latest drivers written for XP for all you hardware? Are you using the HPT370? In that case, it would be a good idea to update your system BIOS since 64 does include revisions to the HPT BIOS as well.
